Baby favorites

I’ve been wanting to do a post like this for the longest time, and now I’m finally getting around to it!  I get the best advice from other mommies and I have used a lot of their ideas, too.  So, without further ado, here is what I have to offer to all of you other mommies looking for some advice.  Take what you can get from it. Oh, and I apologize for having so many favorites…I just couldn’t leave anything out!

Inflatable bath tub

I L-O-V-E this thing!  Elliott quickly outgrew his infant tub with the hammock in it, and the plastic was really uncomfortable for him to lay on when he still couldn’t sit up.  I tried putting towels in the bottom of the tub, but that just created more laundry and more work!  I came across another mommy’s blog who mentioned that the inflatable bath tub was a favorite in her house, and I just knew this was the solution to all of my bath time woes!  Even when Elliott was still unsteady sitting up it worked great because he could lean back on it and still be comfortable…and safe!

For many years I gave these shoes in a size 6-12 months as baby gifts because someone told me that they were great for babies who were learning to walk and I think they are adorable!  Elliott wears his all the time now!  They are cute, comfortable, and best of all, he can’t take them off!

I know everyone has their favorite brand of diaper, but it still doesn’t change the fact that I want to send a shout out to the people at Pampers.  I guess I got hooked on them in the NICU because we have always used them there.  They seem to fit Elliott the best and keep him dry as well!

Target Wipes

Cheap and super moist…what more can I say?

Hooter hider

My friend, Stacey, told me about the hooter hider, and I knew I had to have one for myself!  By the way, this is a great gift to give at a shower if you know the mom will be breastfeeding.  The hooter hider is the coolest thing because it allows a mom to see her baby nursing and still be able to use both hands to get the baby latched on.  This comes in handy when you’re still trying to get the hang of breastfeeding! It’s also nice to have around when you have a nosy baby who wants to look around while at the same time exposing you to the world!

Little Giraffe security blanket

I got this sweet little blanket as a shower gift and I absolutely love it!  It is SO soft and it has become Elliott’s “blankie” that he sleeps with.  I don’t think he has a particular attachment to it, but it is really sweet how he caresses it against his face when he’s ready to go night-night.

Avent Bottles

Sadly, Elliott and I didn’t make our goal of breastfeeding for 1 year, but I have found that these bottles are the best!  The nipples don’t collapse and they are a great shape for babies who breastfeed and bottle feed at the same time.

Kid to Kid

What can I say?  I don’t see the point in buying new clothes for babies who are growing like weeds.  I admit, I will occasionally pick something up at Target, but, aside from a few borrowed things, I buy most of Elliott’s clothes used.  Kid to Kid has gently used name brand clothes and great prices, too!

Homedics Sound Spa

Again, I owe Stacey some credit because she introduced me to the Sound spa.  If I had to pick my favorite baby favorite it would be this!  It has absolutely changed my life!  We use the “rain” setting and it blocks out all of the noise in the house.  It seems to produce a Pavlov’s response in Elliott…as soon as it comes on and the lights go out he gets very sleepy.  In fact,  I think he might have to take it to college because he has gotten so used to it.

Jesus Storybook Bible

I got the Jesus Storybook Bible as a shower gift and brought it home where David promptly began to read from it.  We immediately fell in love with the way that the author tells the message of the gospel.  The drawings in it are incredible as well.  I cannot wait for Elliott to be able to sit, listen, and understand how much God loves him!

YoBaby Yogurt

A new favorite in our house…YoBaby yogurt!  Elliott has one a day.  We may as well be feeding him candy because he likes it that much!

Sonoma baby crew socks

Some of the few socks I’ve been able to find that actually stay on!  You can find them at Kohl’s.

Avent Pacifiers

Although he only takes a pacifer before bedtime, no other pacifier will do for my little man!

Wooden Pyramid toy

My sister-in-law gave this to Elliott for Christmas and it is definitely one of his favorite toys! He loves the way the pieces fit inside one another and the way they feel in his mouth! Maybe one day I will catch him putting the puzzle together!

Dr. Smith’s diaper cream & Aquaphor

The nurse at Elliott’s pediatrician’s office recommended using Dr. Smith’s diaper cream and Aquaphor to us when Elliott was only about 2 weeks old. Put one layer of Dr. Smith’s covered by a layer of Aquaphor. It works like a charm every time!

Rainforest Jumperoo

My mom gave Elliott the Jumperoo for Christmas and he has had some really great times in it.  We loaned it to our friend, Clarity, and she loves it, too!

I have fallen in love with Oswald the octopus.  He is cute, charming, friendly, and so polite!  Oh, and Fred Savage does his voice.  I have it tivo’d so we don’t miss an episode.  It’s so cute to watch Elliott stop and watch the tv when he hears the Oswald theme song playing.  I can’t quite get him to watch an entire episode, but what can you expect from a 10 month old?

This concludes my two cents worth of advice for all of my mommy friends and mommies to be. Feel free to comment with some of your baby favorites!

  1. This is great! Tried-and-true favorites are exactly what I need to know about as I delve into the world of baby registries. Thanks!

  2. Okay – the Hooter Hider is an awesome name and great idea. I didn’t need it, but I love it!

  3. Hi Tricia

I’m the author of The Jesus Storybook Bible and I came across your blog via a google alert thing and thought I’d stop by and say Hi.

Thanks for your lovely review–I’m so glad you’re enjoying the book. It’s God’s Wonderful Story–and i’m so honored to have a part in retelling it for children.

Anyway, my best to you–and little Elliott.

PS you may be interested to know about some cool resources on my site connected with the book, including audio of me reading the stories, downloadable stories, interviews and reviews–as well as other new children’s books (including OLD MACNOAH HAD AN ARK–which has little ones rolling around the floor–and THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO GRANDMAS AND GRANDPAS: an “instruction manual” for children to the nurture and care for Grandparents)

  4. Cool author comment! BTW: The socks at Target look just like the ones posted and have worked great for us. I noted lots of our favorites too. I saw another resail shop the other day on 8th by Park Hill. I haven’t been in yet, but the window clothes are super cute. Let me know if you check it out before me!

  5. Hi Tricia, this is Alan from Bebe au Lait. Thank you so much for the mention of our nursing covers on your blog! We appreciate the kind words!

  6. Oh Tricia!! What a GREAT post! I agree with so many of your choices! The sound spa (also RAIN!), the pampers and my fave life-saver – the hooter hider – all such favorites!! I am going to totally take your advice on some of the other items…I’m going to get the “Jesus Storybook Bible” asap and I think I may have to get that jumperoo, too!! Thanks for taking the time to put your thoughts together!! Mothers give the best advice! How about those shout-outs from the hooter hider people and the author of the “Jesus Storybook”!! That’s too cool!

  7. I loved the blow up bath tub. We used it for quite a while. And Tobey wore out the Robeez you bought for him. I had to buy a second pair. What a great list? i will definitly have to get one of those hooter hiders next time.

  8. Hey just wondering where did you get the Little Giraffe blanket? Thanks

  9. Mandy, I got the little giraffe blanket as a shower gift, but I have seen them at Lawrence’s on Hulen St. and in other baby boutiques. Hope that helps!

  10. Dude, Did I just read that Sally Llyod-Jones commented on your blog!!! Wow! I was just about to do a review of all the baby bibles we have received, but now it feels like I would be doing it just to get commented on by the amazing author…who happens to be amazing we have some of her other work, she is just so talented!

Anywho, okay so I will have to get the Aquaphor…I have not seen it yet, that and the Dr. Smiths.

You know whats funny is I was about to do a blog about this very thing…all the stuff I love so much. Soon it will be added to mine blog…soon and very soon.
