Bye, Bye, Binky!

It’s official.

Our baby is, once again, becoming a big boy.

You might recall the problematic pacifier mentioned nearly a year ago.  Well, we are happy to announce that the problematic pacifier is now a thing of the past.

After an unfortunate run-in with the Hand, Foot, and Mouth virus (thanks to a very generous friend at school, no doubt), Elliott won’t come within 10 feet of a pacifier.  Sores on tongue + binky = OUCH!  At first it was difficult not having the pacifier to comfort him, but then we realized that it might not be so bad to be pacifier-free.

Elliott has adjusted really well.  His bedtime routine has changed a little bit in that he isn’t quite as cuddly during story-time and he prefers to lie in bed, talking to himself for a few minutes before falling asleep.  But, we are not complaining!  I dont’ miss hunting for pacifiers at bedtime one bit!

So, for all of you other parents who are dreading the day when you have to say “bye, bye” to the binky, I dont’ have any advice for you….unless you want to “accidentally” expose your kid to the Hand, Foot, and Mouth virus and hope that it does the trick.  Just kidding.  Shame on me for even mentioning such a thing.

  1. Oh Tricia, I AM dreading the day. We were doing so well UNTIL he got sick. That’s all he wanted and he’s still hooked. UGH!!!! Oh pray for us!

  2. We should have nixed that habit already but I’ve had so many excuses. The current one is I don’t want to rock the boat as we try to move to the big boy bed. (Well, that and I don’t want to deal with the drama.)

  3. Bah ha ha!!!
