1 Month!

I cannot believe Jude is already 1 month old! The days are just flying by…and muddled together due to the lack of sleep, of course!

I should have known better than to post this post because a few days later our seemingly laid-back baby did a 180 and started to have an opinion of his own!  Weeks 2-4 have been kind of rough on all of us as Jude is quite fussy after eating and colicky during the afternoon and evening.  I took the advice of some friends and eliminated most dairy from my diet.  It seems to be helping some, and Jude is spending more awake time content.  If he continues to be uncomfortable after eating and after changing my diet, our pediatrician says that he will try an anti-reflux medication.  At times I feel like a first-time mom all over again because Jude is so different from Elliott!  A fussy baby + a sleep-deprived mom can lead to a lot of second-guessing myself and an emotional roller coaster trying to figure out what exactly is wrong.

One thing’s for sure though…Jude is definitely getting enough milk!  At 1 month he weighed in at 9 lbs 7 ounces.  He’s nearly 40% bigger than he was at birth!  He loves to eat!  He also loves to be held and cuddled.  He loves to listen to his daddy’s silly songs as he dances him around.  And, he loves to bounce…in a lap, on the exercise ball, in a bouncy seat…wherever…just bounce!

Happy 1 month, Jude!  We love you very much and are excited to see what this month brings!

  1. Glad to hear the update! A little worried that Jude started being fussy. Our second is quite the livewire in the womb, and I was happy to hear when you said that Jude came out nice and laid back! Oh, well. 🙂

  2. I can’t believe he is already a month! Crazy!! I hope everything starts going better with his reflux.

  3. Tricia, our daughter Ainsley was quite the handful when she was little – she was always very unhappy after eating and cried a LOT in the afternoon/evening/night. Our ped. put her on reflux medicine for silent reflux, similar to heartburn, and it helped so much! Over the first few months we had to increase her dose quite a bit and she was still pretty unhappy in the afternoon/evening but once she was on the medicine she was more consolable and didn’t arch her head back screaming after meals. It made a huge difference. Anyway, happy to talk with you about it if you like. Either way, we’ll be praying.
    Love, Johanna
