Happy half birthday, Jude!

Precious baby boy,

I cannot believe you are already 6 months old.  I wish I could stop time for a while as it seems to be speeding past us at an alarming rate.  You bring us so much joy, Jude.  You are such a happy baby.  Your smile is infectious.  And, your deep laugh can brighten a gloomy day in an instant.  You are a fairly quiet baby, but you seem to enjoy talking to your big brother the most.  Maverick, your puppy, makes you laugh and it seems like you are dying to interact with him when he casually walks by you.  Daddy can make you squeal the loudest when he’s blowing raspberries on your tummy.

You are sitting up by yourself really well, although you still have a tendency to fall backward.  Your favorite place to hang out is still the Johnny Jump Up, but you also really enjoy the Exersaucer in the play room.  You are doing much better with tummy time and are rolling from your tummy to your back when you feel like it.  A few days ago you started using your legs and feet to spin yourself in a circle while on your tummy.  Way to go, buddy!  You still really love lying on your back and playing with toys that hang over your head.  You constantly chew on your fingers!  And, you are also really enjoying playing with toys.  It’s fun to sit you on the floor and dump a basket of toys in your lap.  You can entertain yourself for quite some time!

People are always commenting on how much you look like your daddy.  It’s true.  You really do.  Your hair is a gorgeous shade of red.  It’s not light enough to be called strawberry blonde and not dark enough to be called auburn.  It’s somewhere in between.  They also comment on how “healthy” and “well-fed” you look.  We love your chunky thighs and your chubby cheeks.  They are wonderful!

You have gotten into somewhat of a routine, which is nice.  I say “somewhat” because about half of our days you have to adapt to everyone else’s schedule.  You take a lot of cat naps in the car, skip a lot of naps, get woken from a lot of naps, and power through.  But, you remain in good spirits most of the time despite it all.  You usually wake up in the morning between 7:30-9:30 and nurse.  On a good day, you nurse on a 7:30-10:30-1:30-4:30-7:30 schedule and go to bed after your last feeding.  You usually sleep 8-9 hours, waking for one feeding around 3:30-4:30.  You always go right back to sleep until the morning.  Last week you went 11-12 hours between feedings 4 nights in a row.  During the day your naps vary.  I am happy if you take at least three 1-1 1/2 hour naps.  Sometimes you take four 45 minute naps and other times you’ll take longer naps.  As I said before, it’s hard for me to expect you to be a good day-time napper when we’re at home because your schedule is so inconsistent while we are out and about on the other days of the week.

We are so in love with you, Jude!  It is our privilege and joy to know you and to be your parents.  What a precious gift from God you are!  We are so happy that he has given you to us.  Our prayer for you is that you will grow to know and love God with all of your heart, mind, and soul.  May He use you for His glory!
