Roughin’ It

Elliott loves to pretend to camp. He loves it when I agree to build a tent in the play room.  I get out the sleeping bags and we build a pretend fire with blocks to pretend to roast real marshmallows!  It’s one of his favorite things to do, so you can imagine how excited he was when David offered to take him camping…for real!

They found a nice little spot near the lake at a camp ground about 10 minutes from our house!

Sadly, there was a burn ban in Texas so they were not able to build a camp fire for roasting hot dogs and smores.  Elliott didn’t seem to mind because they made his favorite, macaroni and cheese, on the stove for dinner.

They were away from home for less than 24 hours, but they found plenty of things to do.  They spent a long time finding things to throw into the water.

They played games in the tent and Elliott beat David, fair and square, at every game they played.  How does he do it?

They “fished”.

They went on a hike …

…and saw lots of interesting plant life.

Their only complaint was lack of sleep due to some noisy neighbors.  Although I was a little sad to miss out on all the fun the “big boys”tell me that they had a great time being just the two of them.  I think it will be a trip that they will both treasure forever!

What kid doesn’t love playing in a tent?  Just for fun…here is a picture of Elliott on his first camping trip when he was 14 months old.
